The need for enrichment and professional development for educators throughout all of Rwanda is evidenced by vast numbers of under-qualified teachers currently leading classrooms throughout the country of Rwanda. Teacher training and enrichment is a topic of great focus for many development organizations such as UNICEF, DFID, UNESCO among others, but their attention is on primary education. There is a lack of systematic enrichment in the secondary school sector. The Maranyundo Initiative plans to focus enrichment programs geared toward lower secondary school educators. The Maranyundo Initiative recognizes the great need, but is currently developing a systematic sustainable enrichment program.
