Facts about the Maranyundo School:

  • Independent English speaking boarding school for girls grades 7-8-9
  • Construction began in 2005
  • School opened in February, 2008
  • Currently 180 total students, 60 in each grade, 30 per class
  • All teachers are academically (degree) qualified
  • A student:teacher ratio of 30:1 is maintained
  • Is located in the town of Nymata, in the Bugesera district of Rwanda
  • Merit based admission, based on Rwandan National Exam scores and financial need
  • Faculty and staff are recruited locally, augmented with US volunteer teachers and tutors
  • School receives baseline funding from the Ministry of Education with additional funds to support the elements of a School of Excellence provided by the Maranyundo Initiative
  • Maranyundo Initiative provides scholarships so that qualifying graduates can attend upper secondary school
  • IsĀ  run by the Benebikira Sisters, a Rwandan order of Roman Catholic nuns who are highly respected and have a long history of providing quality education to the economically vulnerable
