
Facts about the Maranyundo School:
- Independent English speaking boarding school for girls grades 7-8-9
- Construction began in 2005
- School opened in February, 2008
- Currently 180 total students, 60 in each grade, 30 per class
- All teachers are academically (degree) qualified
- A student:teacher ratio of 30:1 is maintained
- Is located in the town of Nymata, in the Bugesera district of Rwanda
- Merit based admission, based on Rwandan National Exam scores and financial need
- Faculty and staff are recruited locally, augmented with US volunteer teachers and tutors
- School receives baseline funding from the Ministry of Education with additional funds to support the elements of a School of Excellence provided by the Maranyundo Initiative
- Maranyundo Initiative provides scholarships so that qualifying graduates can attend upper secondary school
- IsĀ run by the Benebikira Sisters, a Rwandan order of Roman Catholic nuns who are highly respected and have a long history of providing quality education to the economically vulnerable
