On November 4, 2017 Maranyundo Girls School was buzzing with excitement. Graduation Day is always a happy occasion, but this year was extra special! This year was the first high school senior class graduation AND the inauguration of the new Library and STEM Learning Center.
Over 40 present and past Maranyundo Initiative Board Members had traveled to Rwanda to join with distinguished guests, parents, teachers, friends, and students at this momentous event. This milestone comes almost a decade since Maranyundo Girls School first opened its doors.
The school was honored by a visit from HE First Lady Jeanette Kagame. After a brief talk by Architect Straton Uwizeyimana, Madame Kagame toured the new building. Students displayed their skills, demonstrating the apps that they had designed, conducting Chemistry experiments, and explaining Physics principles.
After the tour, Madame Kagame walked over to the Multi-Purpose Hall for the Graduation Celebration. The Celebration included performances by the Traditional Music and Dance Clubs, as well as singing and poetry performances by Maranyundo students. Speakers included, Madame Kagame, Head of School, Sister Marie Juvenal Mukamurama, Honorable Minister of Education Dr. Musafiri Papias Malimba, and Maranyundo Initiative Board Chair, Daphne Petri.
To celebrate and commemorate the 2017 Graduation, we compiled this video. The poem was written and performed by Nadine Tuyishime, an S5 student at the time. She was joined by many of the 2017 Graduating Seniors in this beautiful performance.
