Maranyundo Girls School Wins Rwanda’s First Ever LEGO LEAGUE!

You heard that right! The Maranyundo Girls School recently participated in the first ever First LEGO League in Rwanda! FIRST LEGO League is an international robotics competition for students aged 9-16 that aims to inspire young people to pursue science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) careers. The competition challenges teams to design, build, and program autonomous robots using LEGO kits to complete a set of missions on a themed playing field.

More than 30 schools in teams of 10 participated in the competition and Maranyundo Girls School came out on top!

This year’s theme was “Superpowered” which focused on finding innovative solutions to real-world problems related to energy. Participating teams worked for months to build robots that could complete tasks such as transporting and distributing fuel units and pump oil. The students’ won 1st place for the robot games, 2nd place for robot design and championed awards at the National Level.

The team will now represent Rwanda at the International Open of FIRST LEGO League, which will take place in May 2023 in Morocco!

We are very proud of the Maranyundo Girls School’s Champions and all their hard work!
