A Story That Stays With You: NAWI
For International Women’s Day, Maranyundo held a movie screening of NAWI: Dear Future Me with friends of Maranyundo and our co-hosts–Komera, Nurturing Minds, and Girls Education Collaborative.
Two of the film’s directors, Vallentine Chelluget and Kevin Schmutzle, joined us live on Zoom for an engaging Q&A, sharing meaningful insights into the story and the real experiences that shaped it.
The evening was particularly impactful as we learned the film is inspired by Vallentine’s own life, bringing attention to the challenges faced by girls experiencing early and forced marriage. NAWI highlights how cultural expectations and economic hardship can push families toward traditions that limit girls’ opportunities.
Thank you to everyone who came together to watch and support the importance of girls’ education and each girl’s right to shape her own future.
